Family psychoeducation
Family psychoeducation is a method of working in partnership with families by teaching them about mental illness experienced by a family member, and helping them develop coping skills.

MVBCN has implemented multi-family groups for families and consumers coping with schizophrenia. Groups are now available in four counties. Training and monthly consultation is provided by the developer of this model, William McFarlane, M.D. and Phil Collins, MSW, of the Maine Medical Center. Multi-family groups are a core component of the EAST program for youth and young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

For further information about multi-family groups, contact Kathy Savicki, MVBCN Quality Improvement Coordinator.
